The Effects of Assertive Training on Nursing Students¢¥ Self Concept, Assertive Behavior and Human Relation

Abstract
This study was attempted to identify the effects of assertive training on nursing students¢¥ self-concept, assertive behavior and human relations, and to improve human relations in nursing setting by promotion of their self-concept and assertive behavior.- Subjects for this study were forty-four nursing students, among whom twenty-two nursing students of experimental group were trained by assertive training program for three weeks.
The tools were the assertive training program by Hong Kyong Ja. The effects of assertive training were assessed using perceptual self developed by Choi Chong Hoon, self-esteem by Rosenberg, assertiveness scale by Rathus, human relation scale by the Student Institute of Kyemyong University. Analysis of the data was done by use of t-test so as to examine the difference of assertive training between two groups, and to test homogeneity of the two groups, and done by use of paired t-test to examine the pre-post difference of assertive training.
The result was as follows:
1. The first hypothesis that the nursing students¢¥ self concept who had taken the assertive training will show a higher score than that of the students who had not taken the same training was supported (t=6.07, P<.001).
2. The second hypothesis that the nursing students¢¥ assertive behavior who had taken the assertive training will show a higher score than that of the students who had not taken the same training was supported (t=3.48, P < .001).
3. The third hypothesis that the nursing students¢¥ human relations who had taken the assertive training will show a higher score than that of the students who had not taken the same training showed a significant difference in human relations between two groups (t=3.27, P < .01), but did not show a significant difference in human relations of the prepost training of the experimental group (t=.00, P >.05).
